A high-level Iranian delegation visited China in early November 2023 to attend the 6th China International Import Expo (CIIE), led by Iranian First Vice President Mohammad Mokhber. The delegation included the Ministers of Economy, Industry, Mining and Trade, as well as representatives from various ministries and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In December 2022, Iran and China finalized 16 memorandums of understanding (MOUs) under the framework of the strategic 25-year agreement. The memorandums were signed during the Iran-China Comprehensive Cooperation Plan Summit in Tehran.

The summit focused on four key areas and aimed to pave the way for the implementation of the 25-year agreement.

In mid-February 2023, Iran and China signed an additional 20 memoranda of understanding in Beijing. During this period, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi paid a three-day state visit.

Bilateral cooperation documents cover various fields such as agriculture, trade, tourism, environmental protection, health, disaster relief, culture and sports. Notably, agreements were reached in the transport and industry sectors.

Agreements in the transportation sector totaled $12 billion, while those in the industrial sector amounted to $3.5 billion.

Despite the challenges, China remains Iran’s main trading partner. The 25-year strategic partnership plan between the two countries has entered a new stage, with specific projects identified and obstacles resolved. These developments herald positive trends in economic cooperation and investment between Iran and China.
